What is Giving Day?

At Manchester, it’s one of the best days of the year! Support for The Manchester Fund is vital – every dollar counts. But Giving Day is also a celebration of our common bond with Manchester. Alumni and friends giving generously, and students learning from them the joy of giving back. Through on-campus events and social media, we connect and reconnect on Giving Day, and celebrate a place we love.

Why The Manchester Fund?

The Benefits of The Manchester Fund

  • Financial aid allows deserving students to stay at Manchester and graduate.
  • University staff can keep buildings clean and safe, and keep our beautiful campus grounds inviting to students and visitors. And the University can make unforeseen repairs such as a new water heater for a residence hall or a much-needed update to the telephone system.
  • The University can meet its most pressing needs not covered by any other source.
  • Because the University’s endowment is modest, the fund serves as a financial shock absorber when prices escalate, something breaks or something else needs to be replaced.
  • A financial safety net enables the University to pay utility bills that can fluctuate unpredictably.
  • Classroom technology upgrades improve student learning and expand opportunities for students and faculty to perform side-by-side research.
  • Equipment and supplies for laboratories encourage students to explore new horizons of scientific discovery.
  • Library books, periodical subscriptions and online resources empower students with knowledge and enable them to write and research.
  • Student activities such as May Day weekend and Homecoming create memories and add fun to the Manchester experience.

What is this year’s Giving Day theme?

Our Giving Day theme is Acorns to Oaks. A mighty forest can start from the humble beginnings of an acorn. Every year at Manchester first-year students are given an acorn as a representation of the potential each of them holds. Upon graduation, each student receives an oak tree to plant in recognition of their personal and academic growth. This year's theme celebrates our tradition and embraces with hope the success stories of future MU graduates.

How can I help with Giving Day?

One way to help is to become a Social Media Ambassador.
